The holiday season will be here before you know it, and if you enjoy hosting holiday gatherings for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s, now is a good time for you to consider whether you’re properly outfitted for this year’s celebration.
The dining room is where you’ll spend a large portion of time during these gatherings, as the multi-course meals you serve will take quite a bit of time, and the lingering conversations at the table might keep you in that room long after the meal is complete. As such, you should consider your décor, furnishings and the general condition of the room to make sure you’re ready for hosting. Do you need a new dining room set before you start hosting guests this season?
Here are a few tips for you to consider as you prepare your dining room for your holiday gatherings:
- Fresh paint: How long has it been since you last painted your dining room? You might be due for a fresh coat, or for an overhaul of your color scheme. Today, a big trend for dining rooms is to embrace darker, deeper wall colors to create a greater sense of drama and formality. These darker and deeper wall colors can set a great backdrop for formal dinners and holiday gatherings. You can also use lighter colors for wainscoting or trim to help offset that darkness.
- New furniture: Now may be the time for you to consider the purchase of a new dining room set, especially if you plan to do a lot of hosting. Taking care of it right before the holidays allows you the opportunity to make a big impression on your guests this season with your brand-new items. If a new dining room set isn’t what you’re looking for, mismatched sets are also becoming more popular. You can try out different styles and put them together to create a more unique, personalized dining room aesthetic.
- Add a rug: The dining room rug has come back into style in recent years as a way to tie the room together. Rugs add texture, patterns and colors, and also help protect the floors and define specific areas. There are some people who don’t enjoy rugs in the dining room because they don’t like the idea of a rug under the table. Just make sure, if you do get one, that it’s large enough for people to pull their chairs fully out from the table without getting stuck.
- Consider your décor: What types of décor do you have in the dining room to draw the eyes and really create an inspiring space? You might consider adding a large mirror or piece of artwork (or smaller pieces of artwork), an antique furniture piece, a stylish bookcase or strategic open shelving with tasteful décor placed on it.
These are just a few examples of some of the factors you should consider as you look to revamp your dining room before the holiday season hits. For more information about the strategies you can employ to get the most out of your dining room, contact us at Crowley’s Homeworks.
